Location: |
Company A : The business is located in the South West with good access to core markets and major transport links. The business currently operates mainly on a local basis, within a 70 mile radius of the office but the location is ideal for servicing other areas in Wiltshire, Dorset and Hampshire.
Company B : The business is located in the South East. |
| |
The business encounters many different competitors in its market, but no single company stands out as a direct competitor.
There are two main types of competitor, larger trade operators mainly working on the large new-build sites, offering similar services to commercial customers and one-man-band operations.
Most of the local competition is perceived to have an inferior, weaker service. Whilst clearly there is a degree of competition from these firms, Company A is well known locally and differentiates itself by operating a direct service to very high standards.
The smaller ?one man band? type firms operate almost entirely on a local basis, and do not have the critical mass to provide meaningful direct competition to Company A in the area.
Key competitive factors in the tiling market are quality, price and availability. Company A has concentrated on and have successfully developed a genuine service ethos and very strong customer relationships, which the director believes to provide a clear differentiation in the market and the basis for significant future growth potential.
Pricing between competitors tends to be very close, and the director constantly monitors prices in the market using their own research methods as well as information supplied by existing customers. However, the cheapest price is not always the key factor, and Company A wins business through its reputation for quality and service at competitive prices. |

Both companies have an excellent reputation and enjoy a strong position in its market, with first rate growth prospects. |
