LOCATION (ST14 8QH)
The Village of Kingstone stands in a select and sought after area of rural East Staffordshire popular with those working in the surrounding conurbations. It is an accessible but quiet location just to the South West of Uttoxeter approximately 2 miles from the main A518 Uttoxeter to Stafford road a short drive from the popular Bylthfield Reservoir and Manor Golf Club. The Inn is found easily by taking the A518 Stafford road out of Uttoxeter, turning left at the B5013 and after 1.5 miles following the signs for Kingstone & Blythe. From Stafford the sign for Kingstone & Blythe is reached after about 8 miles on the A518. Manor Golf Club is recognised to one of Staffordshire's hidden gems, a par 71, 6,215 yard long, course set in the heart of the Staffordshire countryside, with picturesque views and an abundance of wildlife. The course has been prepared and laid out as a traditional English golf course, which provides a challenge for both low and high handicap golfers alike. The Historic market Town of Uttoxeter's was mentioned in the Domesday Book. Some historians point to pre-Roman settlement here and Bronze Age axes have been discovered in the town. It is possible that Uttoxeter had some form of Roman activity due to its strategic position on the River Dove and closeness to the large garrison forts at Rocester between AD69 and 400, and recently discovered fort at Stramshall. Uttoxeter also saw the last major royalist surrender of the English Civil War, on 25 August 1648. Its racecourse attract pundits from across Europe and is renowned as one of the finest “sticks” courses in the country. The locale is well serviced by schools both in the village, The small Talbot 1st School with circa 40 pupils and by bus to nearby Uttoxeter for middle and senior students. The village has been the home of The earl of Shrewsbury since 1924.
