Business Summary

Preferred Commercial is delighted to offer for sale this popular hotel, which is ideally located on the desirable Royal Crescent in Whitby. The business is only now being placed on the market due to our client’s wish to retire. The Avalon Hotel operates all year round and generates a turnover in the region of 135,000 per annum. The property boasts 23 en-suite letting rooms, most of which have recently been refurbished and many with sea views, along with owners’ accommodation and a 32 cover dining room, and commercial kitchen. There is a quality web site in place offering on-line booking facilities. The business benefits from an excellent reputation with many good reviews on travel web sites such as TripAdvisor, and there is much repeat custom. At present the business is operated on a bed and breakfast only basis, offering scope for a new owner to introduce evening meals and possible a lunchtime menu. We are advised that there is an alcohol licence, which is currently not utilised. The freehold of the property is also available, by separate negotiation – see our reference 4023. We feel this is an ideal opportunity to acquire a popular and well established hotel in such a desirable location. Early discussions with Preferred Commercial must come highly recommended.

Location: The Avalon Hotel is ideally located on the desirable Royal Crescent on the West Cliff of Whitby, opposite the Pavilion. Whitby is a historic fishing port, dating back to the Middle Ages and became popular with tourists in Victorian times. Today Whitby is a busy tourist destination all year round, boasting a wealth of attractions and regular music festivals and events. The East Cliff is dominated by the ruins of Whitby Abbey, which helped inspire Bram Stoker's Dracula. The town also boasts connections with Captain Cook, who learned his trade at Whitby. Whitby Jet was mined by the Romans and Victorians, who fashioned the stone into popular jewellery. The nearby cliffs offer a wealth of fossils and dinosaur footprints are visible on the beach. The town lies at the mouth of the River Esk in North Yorkshire, approximately 20 miles north of Scarborough and 26 miles southwest of Redcar.
